Breeders' Cup Limited and 23 of the world’s premier racetracks have joined forces in 2010 Breeders’ Cup Challenge, a series of 65 officially sanctioned Breeders' Cup qualifying races. Breeders’ Cup Challenge races will be held in the U.S., Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, England, Ireland and France. The Breeders' Cup Challenge -- now entering its fourth year -- will be highlighted again by its "Win and You're In" provision, with the winner of each of the Challenge races automatically qualifying for a corresponding divisional race in the Breeders' Cup World Championships, which will be held on November 5-6 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. The Breeders’ Cup, consisting of 14 races and $26 million in purses over the two-day event, will be televised live on ABC/ESPN and to more than 120 countries."Win and You're In" officially sanctioned Breeders' Cup races represent the most significant change in Breeders' Cup qualifying since the event's inception in 1984. Previously, Breeders' Cup selection was based on points earned in races throughout the year or though a field selection process made by an international committee of racing experts. Now the winner of each of these Challenge stakes will automatically earn a start in the corresponding Championship race and bypass the field selection process. All Challenge winners must be pre-entered for the Championships in order to use their automatic qualifier.
In the event a designated Breeders’ Cup Challenge turf race qualifier (Turf, Filly and Mare Turf, Juvenile Turf, Juvenile Fillies Turf, Turf Sprint or Mile) is taken off the turf, due to unsafe racing conditions, the horse that wins the 'off the turf' race will NOT receive an automatic qualifying position to enter the Breeders’ Cup World Championships in the applicable turf Division race. The decision to take a Breeders’ Cup Challenge race off the turf course is under the sole discretion of the racetrack/racing association, not Breeders’ Cup Limited.
Purse money will be distributed according to each racing association’s purse distribution schedule. Breeders’ Cup fund monies will also be correspondingly divided provided a Breeders’ Cup nominee has finished in an awarded position. Any Breeders’ Cup fund monies not awarded will revert to the fund.
